Bio
Coach David Markley recently completed his fifth season as head coach of the Southlake Carroll Boys Basketball program, continuing to elevate Dragon Hoops to new heights. Carroll earned a playoff birth once again after finishing the year at 18-12 and a 12-4 district record in 4-6A play. It was the third consecutive playoff appearance for the program, a feat that has not been accomplished in over 22 years for the program. The fourth consecutive winning season is something the program has not seen in over two decades. The Dragons finished the 2024/2025 campaign with a 23-9 record and advanced to the Area Round of the Texas UIL 6A State Playoffs. It was the first playoff win for the Carroll Boys Basketball team in over 20 seasons. Coach Markley was named the District 4-6A Coach of the Year following the season. It was the third consecutive 20-win season for the Carroll Boys Basketball program and this has not been accomplished since the late 90s/early 2000s for the program. The Dragons finished the 2023/2024 season with a 21-10 record that saw them advance to the 6A UIL State Playoffs. The program earned back to back 20 win seasons for the first time in over 20 years and took home the Magnolia Doghouse Invitational championship for the second consecutive season. During the 2022/2023 season, the Dragons won the Magnolia Doghouse Classic tournament and experienced the first 20-win season for Southlake Carroll basketball since the 2016 season. His coaching career has spanned 18 seasons overall with 14 as a head coach. Coach Markley came to Carroll ISD from the Eagle Mountain Saginaw ISD where he was head coach of Chisholm Trail High School. While at CTHS, he started a new program (inaugural season 2012) and led the school to its first District, Bi-District (2) and Area Championships. During his tenure, the Rangers made the Texas UIL state playoffs in three seasons and finished ranked in top 20 in the state of Texas on three occasions. Coach Markley earned multiple coaching accolades in his time at Chisholm Trail, including District Coach of the Year honors. Prior to Chisholm Trail High School, Coach Markley was at Colleyville Heritage High School in the Grapevine Colleyville ISD. Coach Markley was the assistant varsity head coach for Colleyville Heritage High School Panther basketball team and achieved the Texas UIL state playoffs 3 seasons. Coach Markley graduated from CHHS and was a three-year letterman and team captain for Panther basketball.
Coach Markley is a graduate of Texas Christian University of Fort Worth, where he was a four-year letterman in Men’s Basketball. Coach Markley was named to the Conference USA Academic All Conference team during his first three TCU seasons and was named to the Mountain West Conference All Academic team after his senior TCU season. Coach Markley was awarded the TCU Dr. James Cash Academic Award twice during his time at TCU.
Coach Markley and his wife Caitlyn are proud parents of three sons, Harrison (9), Levi (7) and Teddy (3).
