Bio
A 1998 Carroll graduate, Robyn Anders McCoart grew up wanting to be a Lady Dragon — a dream fulfilled both as a student-athlete and as Head Coach of the Lady Dragons.
Returning to her alma mater in 2018, Coach McCoart has led the program to consecutive District Championships and a school record three straight Class 6A Regional Tournaments.
The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches honored Coach McCoart with the 2023 Texas Class 6A Dean Weese Outstanding Coach Award.
According to UIL records, her .746 overall winning percentage (147-50) and .667 postseason mark (10-5) are the highest for any Lady Dragon basketball coach in the past 25 years.
In the postseason, Coach McCoart’s teams have limited opponents to under 30 points on four occasions, accounting for 4 of the top 5 lowest scoring games by a Lady Dragon playoff opponent in the last 25 years. This includes a 57-23 Bi-District win over North Crowley in 2022, a game in which the opponent was held scoreless throughout the first half.
In contrast, during the 2022-23 regular season, the Lady Dragons were the highest scoring Class 6A team in Texas, averaging 67.4 points per game. Carroll’s 94-61 win over Plano was the school’s highest scoring game on record — one of eight games in which the Lady Dragons scored 80 or more points that season.
An Academic All-American at Ouachita Baptist University, Coach McCoart was a 4-year starter in college and is still the school’s all-time career assists leader (407), ranking 11th in career scoring (1,112 points). Her college coach, Garry Crowder, describes her as his “favorite player he’s ever coached” in his 40-year career.
At Carroll High School, Coach McCoart made the Lady Dragon Varsity as a Freshman and played on two straight district championship teams with her older sister, Shannon Anders Lawrence, who is a member of the Carroll Athletics Hall of Honor. She won another district title as a Junior and advanced to the Regional Quarterfinals her Senior season, earning All-State honors.
In high school, Coach McCoart also played on three AAU National Championship teams and represented the state of Texas at the Junior Olympics.
Coach McCoart’s husband, Jeff, is the team’s unofficial Chief Videographer and Director of In-Game LED Entertainment and Productions. They have four sons — Riley (10th grade), Cash (8th grade), Palmer (6th grade), and Hudson (3rd grade) — who are all very active in CISD and Southlake youth sports.
Coach McCoart credits her late father, Ron Anders, for giving her a love for the game of basketball, spending countless hours in the gym with her. Her mother, Susan Anders, retired after a 40-year career as a 4th grade teacher at Johnson Elementary School and now serves as a CISD substitute teacher and regularly attends all Lady Dragon basketball games.
Coach McCoart’s #1 passion in life is to tell others about her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In season and out of season, she regularly leads Bible Studies for area youths at her home. If you would like her to speak at your FCA or Christian organization event, feel free to contact her at Robyn@mcotrucks.com.
